The Sterling Rescue Figure 8 is made for high-angle rescue work.
 
The R8 is larger than a standard figure 8, which will help the device to dissipate heat better and be easier to use with larger diameter ropes.  The “ears” or “horns” will allow for additional friction of the rope when rappelling or lowering heavier loads and can also be used when tying off.
